On Wednesday afternoon [October 6], at five minutes to three o'clock, the locomotive "Lady Elgin," the first engine of the Northern rail road, commenced a trail trip in the presence of a number of spectators. The engine started from the shed at the Queen's Wharf, and ran on as far as the line is laid—upwards of a dozen miles—and returned to the station, after an hour-and-a-half's absence.
